Booking.com is launching a trip planner incorporating ChatGPT: Travel Weekly

1 min read

Booking.com is launching a new AI Trip Planner that blends its own artificial intelligence (AI) technology with OpenAI’s ChatGPT API.

AI Trip Planner draws on Booking.com’s machine learning models that already recommend destinations and accommodations to users on its platform, as well as the ChatGPT API, which will enable a more conversational approach to recommendations.

Booking.com’s planner will answer general travel questions as well as more specific questions regarding destinations and accommodations. It will also create itineraries, Booking.com said. It can show lists of destinations and properties, complete with pricing information and links to view more details.

The planner will roll out to some U.S. travelers via the Booking.com app starting on June 28 for beta-testing. Its availability will grow over time.

“Our primary aim at Booking.com has always been to leverage technology to make travel easier,” CEO Glenn Fogel said in a release. “The recent developments with generative AI are accelerating the work we’ve been doing for years with machine learning to enhance and improve every aspects of the customer experience on our platform, whether it’s optimizing the right order to display a hotel’s photos to surfacing the most relevant reviews. Our new AI Trip Planner is simply the next step in our ongoing journey to explore how we can bring even more value, and hopefully enjoyment, to the entire trip-planning process.”
