‘Christmas Cowboy’ movie filmed in Enosburg Falls and Colchester | Arts & Entertainment

ENOSBURG FALLS — Hollywood came to the Green Mountain State last winter to film a brand new holiday film.
“Christmas Cowboy” follows a New York real estate developer who returns to her hometown of Jericho, Vt. to close the deal of a lifetime with an eccentric billionaire. Along the way, she reconnects with her estranged family and childhood crush, who has grown up to run an equestrian therapy center.
The holiday movie was filmed almost entirely in Vermont, including at the Opera House at Enosburg Falls. Crews needed a space to film a ballroom scene and the historic Franklin County landmark was the perfect location.
“The fact that we’re going to see our building from 1892 on the big screen, it’s just so exciting,” Kim Airoldi, manager of the opera house, said.
“Christmas Cowboy” was also filmed at Fell-Vallee Dressage and the Ellis Inn in Colchester, the Green Mountain Equestrian Center in Jericho, the DoubleTree by Hilton in South Burlington, and Hinterland Bride and Kru Coffee in Burlington.
Tim Ellis from the Ellis Inn said the crew was on site for three days last January, filming a variety of scenes in the bed and breakfast’s great room, bedrooms and front entryway.
“We were so surprised to get the call from the production company,” Ellis said. “My family got to watch the different scenes and takes, which was very cool.”
Ellis bought the historic brick building in 2021. Built in the early 1800s by Ebenezer Wilcott, it previously served as a tavern and a stop for riders of the railroad.
“Christmas Cowboy” is already streaming on platforms like Apple TV+, YouTube TV and Prime Video, but locals can see the movie on a big screen at the opera house this Friday, Dec. 20.
Guests are invited to be movie stars for the night by walking the red carpet at 6 p.m. The screening will start at 7 p.m.
Built in 1892 by Dr. B.J. Kendall Co., the opera house today hosts a variety of performances, vendor fairs and art-centered youth camps.
The Victorian style, wood frame building is on the National Historic register and has seen numerous community restoration efforts through the decades.
In addition to the holiday romance, viewers of “Christmas Cowboy” will catch sight of familiar faces on screen. Enosburg and Richford community members make cameos as extras, and some even have a few lines.
Shayna Sherwood, secretary of the opera house’s board of directors, put a casting call out to the community, and Airoldi said people flocked with interest.
“As our commitment to the community, the arts and the children continues to grow, this opportunity really made us see that our venue has so much to offer,” Airoldi said. “It’s exciting to think about what the possibilities are for the future.”
