Explore Tuscany by bus this summer

All of Tuscany is easily accessible by bus thanks to the 1,000 routes provided by at – Autolinee Toscane. Summer bus services in Florence
City bus services have been increased this summer in Florence as part of a drive encouraging travellers to leave their cars at home. Starting June 11, the four Florence lines C1, C2, C3 and C4, which run through the city centre, will operate until midnight instead of 8pm, leaving every 15 minutes. These lines connect the city centre with some of the main parking lots, such as Parterre, Beccaria, Sant’Ambrogio, Porta al Prato and Santa Maria Novella Station, as well as with tram stops.

Buses reach otherwise hard-to-access places, such as the Ardenza cliffs, near Livorno (Line 20), a route intended for sustainable seaside travel; the Gulf of Baratti, where pristine waters meets archaeology; the Saturnia natural hot springs; and San Rossore Nature Reserve for biking among deer. From Pisa, the bus to Tirrenia and the coast served over 161,000 travelers in 2024, up 11% from 2023. In Versilia, the “Lungomare by Night” bus lets you party until 5 am without worrying about parking or driving. On Elba Island, Lines 7 and 9 reach not only the beaches, but also CAI hiking trails. The Elba Pass, a discounted sustainable travel pass, was chosen by nearly 3,500 visitors in 2024 and has been confirmed for this year.
Further inland, Line 31 between Volterra and San Gimignano allows travellers to explore hilltop towns and scenic landscapes.
