Investigation continues into deadly Greyhound bus crash in Madison County
JACKSON, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate a deadly crash involving a Greyhound bus in Madison County.
The crash involved a passenger vehicle and the bus on Highway 70 Monday night, according to THP. The incident left multiple victims injured and killed two people. THP reported that one of the deceased was a passenger on the bus.
Both victims were transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville on Tuesday night for forensics and identification.
Greyhound confirmed to WMC that the bus was traveling from Memphis to Nashville.
“There were approximately 32 passengers, one bus operator, and one relief driver on board at the time of the accident. Thirty people were hospitalized, and most have already been released. Our team is actively investigating the situation and providing necessary assistance to our passengers, the driver, and law enforcement,” Greyhound released in a statement to WMC.
THP’s Critical Incident Response Team has reportedly completed its preliminary investigation, the scene was processed, and the bus’s mechanical systems have been examined.
Witness interviews and a detailed analysis of evidence are the main focus of the investigation moving forward, according to THP.
Initially called a “mass casualty incident” by the Madison County Fire Rescue Department, as several agencies responded to Highway 70 East on Memorial Day.

The Madison County Fire Department, THP, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and MedCenter EMS all coordinated at the scene to rescue the occupants and organize ambulance transports to the hospital.
