Medical emergency leads to band’s tour bus crashing: Pepper Pike Police Blotter
PEPPER PIKE, Ohio
Bus crash, assist rescue squad: I-271
Officers responded to a freeway construction zone at 2 a.m. Oct. 23 for a bus crash after the driver suffered a medical emergency at the wheel and crashed into a construction billboard trailer.
Reportedly carrying a band on tour, the eight passengers aboard escaped injury, although the Prevost motorcoach, registered out of Nashville, Tenn., had to be towed from the scene with disabling damage.
Medics transported the driver, a Mississippi man, 58, to a local hospital where he remained in the intensive care unit (ICU) the next day for further treatment and care with a further condition report unavailable.
It was the most serious accident of six total reported over the previous week in the I-271 construction zone, where police issued several citations for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
Disturbance: Chagrin Boulevard, Gail Allison Drive
Officers responded to the Orange High School stadium, located in Pepper Pike, at 9 p.m. Oct. 17 for a dispute between Moreland Hills and Woodmere residents stemming from an ongoing student feud.
In this case, the heated verbal altercation involved one of the students and the parents of another, with no charges filed.
Traffic stop: Chagrin Boulevard
A patrol officer stopped a Chevrolet Equinox for several traffic and equipment violations at 8 p.m. Oct. 17 and soon noticed an open can of MXD Mai Tai cocktail in the car.
Further investigation showed the Youngstown man, 54, was driving on a suspended license. Field sobriety tests led to a drunk driving charge, although he only registered a .031 percent blood-alcohol content (BAC) reading on a breath test.
The initial charge held and he was also cited for DUS, marked lanes and a stop sign violation.
Civil matter: Shaker Boulevard
Officers responded to a residence on the afternoon of Oct. 20 with a woman whose soon-to-be ex-husband had been ordered to vacate through Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
But with no one answering the door and police only dispatched at that point to keep the peace, Pepper Pike officers told the wife’s attorney — also present — that they could not assist in breaking down the door to see if anyone might be inside.
The wife and her attorney were told to contact county sheriff’s deputies to consider further action.
Building code violation: Bolingbrook Road
Police served a citation issued by the city building department to a homeowner on or around Oct. 23 over a tree branch that was not removed in a timely manner from the right side of their property.
