November noise, odd playlist for in-between season | Arts & Entertainment

November noise, odd playlist for in-between season | Arts & Entertainment

November can be an odd time of year. The weather flip-flops between snow, rain, thunderstorms or clear skies. November is also the month right after the height of spooky season and everyone argues about when Christmas music should begin playing (the day after Thanksgiving is appropriate for the radio stations if you ask me). This month is a bridge between fall and winter, which can be confusing if you’re in search of a playlist for this time of year. Never fear! I have a playlist that should satisfy your listening needs until we can all be in agreement that Christmas songs are fair game.

  1. “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” – Nancy Sinatra

This sassy song makes number one on the list. With western flair, this tune provokes images of a woman taking a stand for herself. The iconic strumming of the guitar creates a sort of audible limbo that listeners adore. With fall and winter fashion in mind, ladies will be donning their aesthetically pleasing boots. “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” can make anyone want to dance and fits any time of the year perfectly—so why not now?

  1. “Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang” – Silver

This is one of my favorite songs. I feel like a wistful thread was woven into the lyrics, creating a sort of snowy feel that reflects the nostalgia of winter and Christmas lights, while also incorporating the warmth of summer relaxation, all tied together with a bow of longing. “Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang” transports the audience to the ‘70s through groovy instrumental sliding.

  1. “Corazón de Melón” – Los Panchos

Translating to “melon heart,” this poetic song has a captivating dreamy sense. The lyrics repeat themselves, but not in a way that feels monotonous, but like an ongoing serenade. I love listening to songs in different languages and hearing the sweet trills of Spanish. Sounding like both farewell and hello, “Corazón de Melón” has a jolly air to it with a layered tenderness. This pleasant song never fails to leave a smile on my face as I repeat “Melón, Melón, Melón.”

  1. “Cheri Cheri Lady” – Modern Talking

This odd, cheery song has been overplayed in my headphones. I can’t get enough of the rhythm and creamy vocals. Something about this song makes me return time and time again. The tempo and beat are addictive, not to mention the eccentric dances in the music video. Simply put, “Cheri Cheri Lady” is a fun and lovey-dovey melody from this talented German pop duo.

  1. “My Love Mine All Mine” – Mitski

Although I’m going slightly mainstream with this selection, there’s a gentle, lulling feel to this song that produces a sleepy vibe, making the listener feel cradled. Maybe it’s just the seasonal depression, but the cloudy weather equals this Mitski hit in my mind. The simmering drums make me yearn for the clear skies of spring. “My Love Mine All Mine” hits the precise moodiness of the season—a tragic balance of want and contentment.
