Stop the Billionaire Giveaway National Bus Tour stops in La Crosse, walks to Rep. Van Orden’s office | Politics

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – If you were near the area of Burns Park early Tuesday afternoon, you possibly saw a giant green bus parked with people gathered around it.
The bus was a part of Fair Share America’s Stop the Billionaire Giveaway National Bus Tour. The 45-foot tour bus is traveling around the United States to send a message to elected officials.
Their message in La Crosse revolved around the U.S. Senate passing the “big beautiful bill” and how it will impact Medicaid and SNAP.
Congressman Derrick Van Orden and numerous Republicans have said the bill does not cut either.
The Executive Director of Fair Share America, Kristen Crowell, said the results of the bill will be devastating and what Representative Van Orden is saying is not true.
“Even in the last 48 hours we’ve seen members of the Republican Party in Washington D.C., Senator Tillis stand up on the floor and say exactly what we’ve been saying. ‘This will cut families health coverage. Full stop,’” said Crowell. “They’re trying to divide us. They’re trying to, you know.
Crowell continued, “it’s simply false that this would not cut Medicaid. The nonpartisan budget advocacy organizations are also saying the same thing. This will have a devastating effect.”
After hearing from potentially impacted individuals and community members, those who gathered walked to Representative Derrick Van Orden’s La Crosse office on seventh street.
There they knocked on the congressman’s office door and called on him to meet with constituents and reject any budget that cuts Medicaid and SNAP.
