Theatreworks in Colorado Springs releases new theater season | Arts & Entertainment

To celebrate its golden jubilee, Theatreworks will offer a mix of classic plays and a musical sandwiched around two contemporary plays.

The Tony Award-winning musical “Cabaret,” with director Scott RC Levy, executive director of Green Box and Green Box Arts Festival, kicks off the 2025-2026 season Sept. 18.

Oscar Wilde’s farce “The Importance of Being Earnest,” starring Millibo Art Theatre co-founder Birgitta DePree as Lady Bracknell, will open Nov. 28. Next year’s offerings are the solo show “Where We Stand”; William Shakespeare’s tragedy “Romeo and Juliet”; and the comedic season ender, “The Garbologists,” about two New York City sanitation workers.

“The plays are big and bold, a mix of famous, recognizable, canonical works and some lesser-known pieces,” said Max Shulman, the recently announced new artistic director of the professional regional theater company. “All of them speak to our cultural moment while all sharing a delightful theatricality.”

Shulman will officially take over the new role in July and direct “Romeo and Juliet” next year. He’s also a longtime professor in the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs theater and dance department.

Early bird season subscriptions are $187-$212 and on sale now. Subscriber benefits include choice of seating, five free drinks, one free guest ticket, free ticket exchanges, discounts and more. Go online to tickets.entcenterforthearts.org/packages.
